The Carlisle High School Marching Band is a competitive corps style unit of approximately 100 students in grades 9-12. The marching band has won the Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championships in 1988, 1990, 1991, and 1993. In addition, Carlisle has been the Chapter VI Group IV Tournament of Bands champion in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006.

Membership in the marching band is by audition. A mandatory band camp is held at the high school each summer for two weeks, beginning the two weeks before the scheduled start of the school year The 2009 band camp will be August 17 –August 28.  When the school year begins, the marching band rehearses two evenings a week, usually Tuesday and Thursday 6PM -–9:00PM, until mid-November. Rehearsals are also scheduled on Saturday mornings when there is a competition in the evening.

The marching band drill is written for an exact number of people. We begin to write the drill in late June. So that we may include as many students as possible, I am asking you to contact me as soon as possible if you are interested in membership in the CHS Marching Band (including Band Front). This notification will enable us to plan for your possible membership and to send you information regarding the audition process, fall schedule, and other related marching band activities.

Maintaining a balanced instrumentation is very important. At this time we would like to increase our brass instrumentation. Some students may want to consider switching to a low brass (trombone-baritone-tuba) instrument.

The marching band has been a positive experience for our students and a source of pride for the school and community. A lot of time commitment and hard work is necessary for membership in this organization. Rewards of travel, working together as a "team", the feeling of accomplishment after a performance, public exposure, and social experiences are all part of membership in the marching band. Next December, the marching band will be traveling to Orlando, Florida.

I hope to hear from you soon if you have interest in participating in this extracurricular!
